On a recent trip to the Texas coast, I was amazed at the number of wind turbines I saw as we neared the Gulf.  It made sense to have them there, the land is fairly vacant and most importantly, there is usually a lot of wind in that part of the state!  After all, you probably shouldn’t build a wind turbine in a place unless you’ve got a strong enough breeze to turn it on most days.

In the book of Colossians, Paul makes clear that he desires for believers to have more ‘revelation’ about Jesus.  The funny thing about revelation is that it is a lot like the wind: you don’t have any control over it. This is due to the fact that revelation, true revelation, is a gift of the Father (the Revealer). 

What are we to do?  Well, it’s a lot like those wind turbines I saw near the coast.  We may not have any control over the wind, but we certainly can know the spots where the wind is more likely to blow.  In the same way, we can’t ‘make’ revelation happen, but we can pursue it in the places where the Father delights to give it.  When believers give themselves to prayer, the Word, and God’s people, they are positioning themselves in the spots that Jesus is most often revealed!
