Feeding the poor, saving the babies, rescuing girls…First Gift—our end-of-year missions offering—is our coming together to help people in our city and around the world who need it most. Debbie and I always enjoy buying gifts for our family at Christmas time. Years back, though, we decided we would give at least an equal amount to First Gift. 

The First Gift offering is one way we fight against an attitude of “Out of sight, out of mind.” We don’t encounter the poor every day. We don’t encounter girls who are being trafficked during our normal weekly routine…but they are there. Giving to First Gift lets us make a difference. 

In his first public message, Jesus exhorted us to invest our earthly treasure in ways that would result in heavenly treasure and reward. How we spend/invest or money can actually impact what we experience in heaven. First Gift is one of the best ways I know to get in on one of Jesus’ most amazing kingdom principles.
