Baptism Celebration

On May 20th, we’re having another Baptism Celebration. These are some of my favorite gatherings. If you haven’t been to one recently, get ready — they are high energy and lots of fun! And why shouldn’t they be? Remember, Jesus is like a shepherd who, at the end of the day, finds he only had 99 of his 100 sheep and even though it’s night, he goes after the 1. When he finds that one, what does he do? He throws a party!…and that’s exactly what we do at our Baptism Celebrations. You’re going to love it, I promise!
The reason I’m telling you about it a month in advance is because I want to give you time to think and to pray about personally being baptized. Maybe you were baptized as a baby or to meet someone else’s expectations. Maybe you’ve never been baptized. Either way, I want to encourage you to boldly take a step and be baptized by immersion like we see in the Bible.

You know, I was baptized as a baby and I respect the genuine heart of love behind my parents’ intent.  As an adult, though, I wanted baptism to be an expression of my personal faith and so, when I was 32 years old, I stepped up at my church’s baptism service and was immersed. I knew if I was really going to follow Jesus and lead others to do the same, I should start with this most basic of his commands to those who call him Lord.
