Escuela Viva

We would love to share the story behind this wonderful ministry!

These children and their families live in Reynosa, Mexico. Their homes, which consist of scrap wood, pallets, old bed springs and plastic, are located in a reclaimed garbage dump called the Colonia. Their diet consists of beans, rice, corn tortillas and occasionally the meat of a chicken raised in their yard.

Over the years, Strategic Alliance, a ministry located in New Braunfels, Texas, has built over 500 new homes to replace the structures they were living in. The homes are a wood structure with one room, three windows, a door and tin roof. The neighborhood shares a water source in the middle of each block. Those lucky enough to have electricity are “borrowing” it from a neighboring area with electricity.

To provide for their families, many rummage through the garbage for items to sell. Some drive homemade donkey driven carts through the city picking up garbage to support their families. Others work as laborers in local factories. A typical wage is $20.00 to $40.00 per week. A factory wage is $60.00 to $80.00 per week.

Your sponsorship provides resources to educate, counsel and influence these youth in a positive way. With your money, ESCUELA VIVA, a ministry team-effort between Strategic Alliance and CrossBridge Community Church, is able to provide uniforms, shoes, backpacks, school supplies and pay the fees to attend school.

What are my next steps if I want to sponsor a child?
